EBOM(Engineering BOM)-Designing the product

EBOM answers how the product is Designed.

Engineering BOM (EBOM) is organized by design engineer based on CAD (Computer–Aided–Design) tool.

There can be many EBOM designed for the same product, based on the engineering discipline of the engineer designing it. For example, electrical/electronic engineer will design PCBA (printed circuit board assembly) BOM with capacitors, resistors, chips etc.  but mechanical engineer will design same BOM with parts and components with information of its placement on PCBA.

How important is EBOM for manufacturing product?

EBOM needs to be designed with its correct details as it is handed over to manufacturing department that has lot of dependency on EBOM to design MBOM and hence the final product

What happens when details are incorrect or missing in EBOM?

• If EBOM lists incorrect quantity of parts required or misses the required part in the product, manufacturer will see delay in production and if the part was supposed to be purchased, it has to be bought at much higher price than was required.
• If a wrong part or component was listed in EBOM, this leads to loss of time in manufacturing and loss of money in buying the component.
• Unstable EBOM will lead to number of unnecessary revisions to be created leading to loss of efficiency and time
