Manufacturing BOM(MBOM) lists all the parts, components, assemblies, sub-assemblies required to build the final product. This includes in-house parts, purchased parts and processed parts. All the details from parts to packaging requirement (CD’s, manual guide etc) to items required in the process (tape ,adhesive etc)are included in MBOM. The structure of MBOM shows where the part is placed in the product or how the component is used.
There are few parts that are processed to add firmware. MBOM lists both the preprocessed blank chip and processed chip at different points.
Overall, anything that is present in final product has to be listed in MBOM.
Why correctness of MBOM is so important?
MBOM has to be correct and complete to avoid any build delays. This is the transition from structure to hardware product. Any incorrect data at this stage can add cumbersome efforts and loss in business depending on the severity of the mistake.
Accuracy and detail of MBOM decides the quality of product and the efficiency to build it and the product is much more controlled.
