Building Structure
Global Alternates
Global alternate can interchange with a part of product structure in all circumstances irrespective of where the part is present or what revision of part is present in structure.
Substitute Components
Substitute components are parts interchangeable with a component in assembly when the preferred part is unavailable.
Optional Parts
Optional parts are size selected and is defined for occurrence and substitutes .An occurrence can have both an optional part and a substitute.
Structure Contexts
Structure Contexts is a container that holds product structure in different ways. Structure Context contains configuration context to hold configuration of a product structure.
Item Elements
An item element or general design element (GDE) denotes a feature, characteristic or interface for a component and is separate element from this component.
Connections & Links
Connections or links can be created between lines in product structure.
Trace Links
Trace links associates requirements with item, item revision, absolute occurrence, which satisfy the requirements. Requirements are created and managed in system engineering. They can be linked to objects of other structure application.
Feature enabled with Edit Options, Select System Engineering in Options Dialog and select Trace Link Mode checkbox

Deleting Trace Links
Trace Links can be deleted in Trace Link View. View displays details of defining and complying object .Selecting the trace link to delete, click on Delete Trace link from toolbar.
If required, refresh trace link.
Trace Link on Absolute Occurrence
Absolute Occurrence stores additional information that is relevant only in context of a structure line higher in structure. So, the created trace link exists between absolute occurrence and requirements, wherever both the in-context structure line (a structure line higher in structure) and the absolute occurrence is present in the same hierarchical relationship.
Creating trace link on absolute occurrence
- Select structure line higher in structure to set it as in-context structure line.
- Choose set-in-context. Line turns green and displays symbol. Siblings turn gray and non-editable for absolute occurrence.
- Select source structure line (absolute occurrence) and start trace link on it.
- In System Engineering, select the target requirement and end trace link on it.
