Revision Rule in Teamcenter
What is Revision Rule?
Revision Rule sets the list of criteria to select an appropriate revision of components (based on rule entry) to configure the product structure.
There are two steps required before item can be configured by revision rule:
- Release schemes and effectivity needs to be implemented for object.
- Create and apply revision rule
Revision Rule & Users
Revision Rule Entry
Revisions of each component in product structure is evaluated on the below rule entry, when listed in revision rule .Teamcenter evaluates the latest revision of the component first(except Precise & Override rule entry) and then the older revisions are evaluated in order, till the rule entry match for the revision.
Revision Rule Evaluation
Revision rule entries are listed in order of precedence. The first revision rule entry is of highest precedence with decreasing order below. When configuring a component in structure with revision rule, latest revision of the component is considered first with a revision rule entry and then the older revisions are evaluated, till a match is found. Precise & Override entries are NOT evaluated this way.
Let’s understand the color coding below for a generic revision rule evaluation.
Color Coding
Darkest box represents highest priority both side. Thickest line evaluation is first. Green arrow denotes the match found for revision and evaluation stops there. Item 1/C is configured with rule entry 3 in this case.
There is little addition with effectivity rule entry, while configuring revision.
Grouped Entries: Equal Precedence Rule Entry
Working & Status rule entry can be grouped for equal precedence. Entry type should be same for a grouped entry. Working rule entry can be grouped together with different owning group or user. Status rule entry can be grouped together with different status.
For Revision Rule Evaluation, consider this group as single rule entry. When matching with this criterion, any match to the entries in this group will configure the revision.
Example:
[Has Status (Production, Configured by Date Released)
Has Status (Pre-Production, Configured by Date Released)]
Creating grouped revision rule entries
Equal Precedence -Group Entry
In the Revision Rules dialog from Tools→Revision Rules→Create/Edit, create and select entries of same type. Click on group button. Click on Group Entries by Equal Precedence.
Has Item Type -Group Entry
In the Revision Rules dialog from Tools→Revision Rules→Create/Edit, create and select revision rule entries. Click on group button. Click on Group Entries by Item Types. Select item type from Available Item Types list.
Revision Rule & Read Access
Revision rule to configure structure is applied, before applying rule filter set in access manager .This leads to display of unreadable configured revision in product structure sometimes. PSE_check_read_access_for_Rev_Rule_entry preference decides if evaluation of revision rule should continue, if an unreadable configured revision is encountered.
Check Revision Rule Evaluation for reference on evaluation with rule entry.
BOM_show_unreadable_lines preference shows or hides unreadable lines.
