Tracking & Managing with Incremental Change
Create & Set Active Incremental Change
Click the Create Incremental Change button on the incremental change toolbar to create an incremental change. Effectivity data will not be set without releasing incremental change (manually or through release status defined in preference)
Click on Incremental Change Edit context button on the incremental change toolbar to set active incremental change. All the edits will be made in context of this active incremental change.
Incremental_Change_Management preference needs to be set to true for incremental change toolbar to be visible.
Manage Changes to Incremental Change
The changes can be managed by Tools–>Incremental Change menu. Changes to object and attachments are done in context of active incremental change.
The commands in menu are as follows:
Incremental Change& Incremental Change Elements
Copying or cutting structure lines with incremental changes
By default, incremental change elements are not copied to new location in case of cut/copy & paste.
Preferences need to be set to allow copying of incremental change elements to new location.
- Fnd0EnableIceCarryOver-Defines item types of source & destination parent BOMLine for which incremental change elements will be copied. For structure changes, only remove changes(not add) associated with original line is copied.
- Fnd0AttrIcesToExclude– For occurrence attribute change, excludes these occurrence attributes from copying to target location
View/Edit Changes to Incremental Change
Click the View/edit current IC information button in incremental change toolbar.
In the View/Edit Change dialog box , in different tab, view/edit can be done on following:
- IC Attributes
- Incremental Changes
- Effectivity
- Intents- Intents can be created and added
EnableIntents preference needs to be set to true
Turn off incremental change tracking
Click the button in the incremental change toolbar .This clears any active incremental change. No edits are tracked.
Incremental Change Baseline
Why create Baseline?
When large number of ICs are created, it increases the amount of data that makes it time consuming to configure the structure. This is why, periodically after certain numbers of ICs are created, a baseline revision should be created. The new revision by default does not carry forward any active incremental change. Carrying forward of active incremental change to new revision can be set through preferences. Inactive incremental changes will not be carry forwarded to new revision.
How is it different from Standard Baseline?
Unlike Standard Baseline, Incremental Change Baseline does not create new revisions of the components throughout the sub-structure .It will only create the revision of the parent and not its components in the sub-structure. For baselining, release status should be applied to BOM View Revision rather than item revision (release status should be different from release status of item revision). Item revision release status is used to configure the structure with effectivity.
Preferences that will enable carry forward of active incremental change:
- IC_baseline_carry_forward_active_changes preference should be set to true.
- IC_baseline_carry_forward_status-Defines list of release status to consider for carry forward of active incremental change.
Baselining Process
New revision is configured as per the applied revision rule at the time of baselining. Affected components of active ICs, that are not configured by revision rule (at the time of baselining) are dropped. Configured affected components are copied and its active incremental changes are carry forwarded (when preference set & active IC criteria met).
Active incremental changes are those currently effective or effective in future.
Criteria to carry forward active incremental change:
- Currently effective frozen incremental change cannot be edited for effectivity, hence are not carry forwarded.
- If effectivity of past effective IC is changed to be currently or future effective, baselining should be performed again to take this into account.
