Traversing & Interpretation of Structure
-
Expanding Structure
The structure is displayed in indented form that shows the relationship between its components. Assembly node with + (plus)Â sign when clicked expands the structure below it.
PSE_expand_on_open preference is set to 1, to expand the structure automatically on open. This is generally not done to avoid performance issues with large structures.
Expansion levels
View–>Expand Below…
Expands the structure from current selected node/nodes to lowest level node.
Expand to level DialogÂ
Expands the structure from current selected node to selected levelnode
Closure Rule & Expansion
Expansion of BOMLine type can be restricted by closure rule.
ClosureRulesForBomExpansion preference shows the list of closure rules. Closure rule can be set/unset for expansion.
Use Tools→View/Set Closure Rule for Expansion and enter any filter attribute required for rule selected. To unset, click on ‘Unset Rule’ in the dialog.
-
Collapsing Structure
Assembly node with – (minus) sign when clicked collapses the structure below it.
Collapsing levels
View–>Collapse Below
Collapses the structure from current selected expanded node/nodes
Expand to level Dialog
Collapses the structure to the level set on the expanded node, when ‘Collapse lower level’ checkbox is selected.
-
Unloading Lines of Structure
When expanding large structures, memory issues can occur. Unloading, few subassemblies by right clicking and selecting ‘Unload Below’, can free some memory manually. All the lines below the selection are unloaded.
-
Visual presentation of lines
- Variant-Nodes that are variant component are displayed with symbol
- Alternate- Nodes with alternate components are displayed with symbol
- Substitute- Nodes with substitute components are displayed with symbol
- Color Coding- Certain lines are color coded to indicate particular status .These color coding can be changed by changing the respective preferences .Defaults coding are as shown:
Lines | Color Coding |
Imprecise assemblies | Gray |
Precise assemblies | Green |
Substitute Occurrence | Blue |
Added Occurrence after structure comparison | Red |
Changed occurrence after structure comparison | Orange |
-
Selecting lines
There are two ways to select lines in structure with Edit Select Below
- Lowest Lines- This option is generally used when intermediate nodes are not of much importance in a context.
- All Lines- This option takes a snapshot of the structure and put it in Override folder that can be attached with topline and released for future reference.
-
Sorting
When clicked on column header of a property column in the BOMWindow where the structure is opened, structure gets sorted in the order of ascending, descending, unsorted according to column value of the selected column. The structure gets sorted at each assembly level.
-
Packing & Unpacking of lines
View–>Pack packs lines. Grouping identical components in one level of an assembly is called packing. Required criteria for identical component:
- Same item revision
- Same find number
- No variant condition or All have the same variant condition
Changes when lines are packed
When lines are packed | Changes |
Quantity value | Non editable and added |
Notes | Packed Notes |
Modification to find number | Visible when unpacked |
Substitute | Packed Substitute |
Ref Designator | Concatenated set of value for ref designator |
View–>Unpack unpacks lines.
